The Equal Pay Act is a federal law that requires that men and women receive equal pay for equal work. The forms of pay covered by this law include: salary, overtime, bonuses, stock options, profit sharing and bonus plans, life insurance, vacation and holiday pay, cleaning or gasoline allowances, hotel accommodations, reimbursement for travel expenses, and benefits. Under federal law, if a man and a woman are performing the substantially the same work, they must be paid the same, even if the jobs are not identical. An employer may not reduce the pay of either sex in an effort to equalize their pay.
